A daily home skin-care program is essential to maintaining youthful and healthy appearing skin. Skin that is properly maintained looks good, resists minor blemishes, has less wrinkles, and exhibits improved healing following cosmetic surgery. Skin care is the starting point for those who are interested in looking their best.
Many excellent home skin-care systems exist but all have similar basic components. A system should be simple without and excessive number of products that have overlapping functions. The following components should be included in your skin care regimen.
Cleanser: A soap free solution to remove dirt and makeup without drying the skin.
Exfoliant: Promotes increased turnover of epidermal cells. Dead cells are removed and new cell production speeds up to replace these cells. This also removes barriers to penetration of the skin with moisturizers and decreases the obstruction of pores with dead cells thereby minimizing skin eruptions. (examples: lactic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, retinoic acid)
Moisturizer: Increases skin water content, which provides a healthy appearance, replaces lost water, and minimizes wrinkles.
Sunscreen: Minimizes drying of the skin and damage that is caused by UV rays. The minimum SPF should be 15. The product should contain a good blocking agent such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Your makeup should also contain sunscreen.
